In its inaugural year, the Valley First Granfondo Axel Merckx Okanagan (VFGFAMO) featured spectacular riding through Canada's wine country, and welcomed over 2,000 cyclists, including special guests Eddy Merckx (5-time Tour de France Champion), Trevor Linden (former NHL player) and pro cyclist, Svein Tuft (Canada's 2011 National Road Race Champion).
The 2012 edition promises to be even better.
Register today for your chance to ride with legends, and experience a European-style cycling event in the heart of the Canada's Okanagan wine country. The 2nd annual VFGFAMO includes several new wrinkles; such as a new Cortofondo (~55 km) ride to complement the Granfondo (160 km) and Mediofondo (92 km) categories, as well as a new Start/Finish at Penticton's legendary Gyro Park. All of this, and a Piccolofondo for the kids, wine tastings, special guest riders, and much more.
Granfondos are long distance, mass-participation cycling events - not races - that have become immensely popular in Italy. In France they're known as "cyclosportives". Participation is open to recreational and competitive amateur cyclists, and tens of thousands of riders of all abilities participate.
