14km paddle, 12km mountain run, 36km mountain bike, 4km run to finish From the cross country trails of Nickel Plate Nordic Center and the slopes of Apex Mountain Resort to the shores of Okanagan Lake, teams of 2 to 6 athletes race each other and the stopwatch in a 5 legged race spanning 50 kilmeters.... Athletes and thrill seekers will spend 3hrs or more relaying from their 2 plank cross country skis to alpine skis/snowboard to a snowshoe/run to cycle and finally to a paddle....The first race of it's kind in Penticton since the 1980's "Dash for Cash", participants can choose to compete in open, open mixed, women's, masters, recreation, corporate or junior. This range of categories provides an opportunity for both competitive teams as well as fun loving thrill seekers to compete in a fun and challenging event....The event is organized and run by volunteers and local businesses are instrumental in its success through sponsorships. The legs, in order of completion, are: nordic skiing, alpine ski or snowboard, snowshoe/run, mountain or road bike, and canoeing/kayaking. Two people are required for the canoeing leg and should your team choose to kayak, the first 6 teams to register will be provided with a kayak at no charge (check our schedule for kayak training days). The race is a relay and all team members are required to help bring the canoe/kayak equipment across the finish line. Pre Race Meeting: All teams must be present at 7:00 am at The Tempest Room in the Apex Mountain Inn to receive race packages and review any last minute changes....Start and Finish:---The race starts at 9:00 am at the start of Nickel Plate Lake trail entrance. Chair begins operating at 8:30am for alpine skiers, snowboarders to take their place for the next leg. Your team officially finishes the race once all team members have carried the canoe or kayak into the "drop-zone" and have crossed the finish line ringing the big bell!
